Try It/ Go Canoeing Sessions
These sessions are open to anyone, to come along and try canoeing for an hour. Dates are listed in the events calendar. These sessions are perfect for those who have not tried canoeing before, or just want to see what the club is like! Take a look at our try-it page for more details.
The aim of this course is to introduce newcomers to Paddle Sport activities and is suitable for all ages. The day will be divided into three sections: General purpose Kayaks, Flat Water Racing/Touring boats, and Open Canadian Canoes. It will cover safety on the water, use of correct kit, basic forward, backward and turning paddling strokes, demonstration of safety equipment and what to do in the event of a capsize. You will have the opportunity to paddle all of these types of craft and while we encourage trying out the different boats it is not compulsory.
Courses are run by qualified Canoe England coaches and include Temporary membership, all equipment and drinks on the day. By the end of the day we expect you to have learnt how to paddle in a straight line and be able to join us at regular club paddles on the canal, having had a lot of fun in the process!
